From following TRTL on social media, you may have seen that we have big plans for the Queer scene here in Kenya. So big - in fact - we're hoping to impact the world! And considering that WeTransfer, Google and even Anthony Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown” Series has taken notice of our work, that hope is definitely within our grasp! Right now, TRTL’s focus is on putting together an amazing showcase in June, 2020 (which I really hope you'll be able to attend btw!). Part of the showcase will include drag and vogue performances, from participants we'll be selecting in early 2019. We will be taking on the participants early because we want to give them (and ourselves) plenty of time to create an entirely magnificent, Queer, African drag look and character for June 2020. We want to bring all the drama of our tribal identities and expressions, and Queerness, and showcase it all in a wonderful extravaganza like Madonna's performance for the MTV awards in 1990.
Imagine, a setting as brilliant as that, but with Swahili inspired decor, music, drag looks and choreography.
I get excited just thinking about it!
I can't do this all on my own though, so I've began to reach out for support to help me bring the TRTL vision to life this year, in June, 2020, and beyond! And apart from teaming up with amazing people that I'm finding along the way, I am also reaching out to people who have shown a deep love for what TRTL is all about and who may be willing and able to help us meet the cost of our dream. So if you would absolutely L.O.V.E. to support our work going forward, I am happy to let you know that we have set up our page to accept "One Time" or "Recurring Monthly" donations!
