Kanga Quote translation:

"I see a day where love shall be prosecuted nevermore" - Quote submitted by Kelvin Kibaki

This is the TRTL kanga honoring Brunei's Queer history.

Homosexual acts are illegal in the sultanate of Brunei and currently punishable by 10 years imprisonment, though it is feared that that may change for the worse if sharia law is implemented as was intended by the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in 2014. This kanga design was therefore inspired by the Bruneian flag, from which I borrowed the yellow colour (which in SouthEast Asia is the colour of Royalty) to represent the Queer community there #YassQueensAndKingsAndQings 😉 I then also used the open hands from the flag, which represent the government's benevolence, as a wish that the Bruneian government would always show its kindness to the Queer community there. This sentiment is further echoed in the kanga's quote that says: "I see a day where love shall be prosecuted nevermore".

This kanga is printed on polyester flag material and measures 1 by 1.5 metres.
