In her 5 part series, Wawira Njeru chose to celebrate Queer/Sexworker
activist Dennis Nzioka. Wawira was inspired by the level of self-love and
assertion he had attained that enabled him to live a purposeful life immune to
the vices that cripple most queer people in a world that is largely anti-queer.
She found his emotional autonomy and freedom admirable, and chose to
document his tattoos – each of which represent a stage in his life that was
key to his current emotional and mental states. The lone wolf metaphor is a
self-perception he holds of himself and one that he lives by.
